We gathered at the home of Gary Gill to kick off 2025 with our first official meeting. The theme for the day was coming to grips with the profusion of Class D amplifiers. We had no less than five different amplifiers to choose from including VTV Amplifiers (Purifi), Atma-Sphere, AgentPur (Orchard Audio), AGD and Mytek Empire GanFET.

Source material was provided by both John Gatski’s demo rig of an Android tablet running USB Audio Player Pro and Gary’s system streaming Qobuz from a Raspberry Pi based DAC. Gary’s recently purchased Popori electrostatic speakers rounded out the audio system and provided a good testing ground for the amplifiers.

Many of the amplifiers featured GanFET technology (AgentPur, AGD, Mytek) while others featured the latest Purifi modules and Sparkos discrete opamps (VTV Amplifier).

The assembled members found much to like in the sound with many appreciating the high value of the VTV amplifier but also enjoyed the fit and finish of products such as the AGD which was purchased on the spot by a lucky member.

As always, the end of the day raffle is a popular and a fun way to bring the meeting to a close.
